Summer in the Mountains (SIM) Winter in the Mountains (WIM)
Winter on Ice (WOI) Crevasse Rescue & Luau Weekend
Summer in the Mountains is an introductory course put on by members for the Edmonton Section of the Alpine Club. There will be six classroom sessions and two skills weekends. Classroom sessions cover temperature regulation in the backcountry, clothing systems, gear (stoves, tents, sleeping bags as well as technical climbing gear), travel on snow, crevasse rescue, and rock climbing.

Skills-
- Weekend #1 -
Travel on Snow / Crevasse Rescue: May 12th & 13th, 2012 (see Crevasse Rescue/Luau weekend) - Weekend #2 -
Rock Skills: May 26th & 27th and June 2nd & 3rd if required, 2012
Costs:
- $80.00 for the course
- Accommodations:
- Weekend #1: $80.00 for Crevasse Rescue & Luau weekend
- Weekend #2: Camping fees only
- You provide your own meals and transportation (carpooling) to mountains.
Gear required:
- Weekend #1:
- Boots, ice-
axe (for glacier travel) & helmet (available for rent at MEC, early reservations are recommended) - Harness, belay device (ATC) & locking carabiner (these items are not available for rent)
- Weekend #2:
- Helmet (available for rent at MEC, early reservations are recommended)
- Harness, belay device (ATC), minimum 2 locking carabiners & rock climbing shoes (these items are not available for rent)
Class room space is unlimited.

Winter in the Mountains is an introductory course put on by members for the Edmonton Section of the Alpine Club. This course is designed to introduce people to the skills they will require for traveling in the mountains on skis. There will be 4 classroom sessions and 2 skills weekend that cover hypothermia, clothing, gear, shelter, and avalanche assessment. This year an extra skills weekend will be available so students can experience both a hut and winter camping for a total of three skills weekends if desired.

- University of Alberta
Skills-
- February 4th & 5th, (11th & 12th if required) and 25th & 26th, 2012
- Staying at hostel for Friday and Saturday night.
- March 3rd & 4th, 2012
- Staying in a Hut.
- March 10th & 11th
- Winter Camping.
Costs:
- $80.00 for the course
- Accommodations: approx. $30.00 per night, for hostel, on skills weekends.
- You provide your own meals and transportation (carpooling) to mountains.

- Alpine-
Touring (A/T) or Telemark skis with climbing skins, Avalanche beacon, probe and shovel (available for rent at MEC, early reservations are recommended)

Crevasse Rescue and Luau Weekend
An opportunity to spend a weekend in the mountains learning and practicing your crevasse-
Dates:
- May 12th & 13th, 2012
Skills training:
- Beginner glacier travel: (includes SIM students) 3-
person rope travel, ice- axe arrest. - Advanced glacier travel: advanced systems for crevasse rescue, 2 person rope travel, rescue of an unconscious climber from a crevasse.
Accomodations:
- Camping (location TBA)
Costs:
- $80.00 -
includes 2 days skills revue, 2 nights camping, and dinner Saturday night. - FREE -
