Summer in the Mountains (SIM)

 

Summer in the Mountains is an introductory course put on by members for the Edmonton Section of the Alpine Club. There will be six classroom sessions and two skills weekends. Classroom sessions cover temperature regulation in the backcountry, clothing systems, gear (stoves, tents, sleeping bags as well as technical climbing gear), travel on snow, crevasse rescue, and rock climbing.

Class room space is unlimited.

Weekend spots are limited due to hostel and backcountry restrictions and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis: registration for the course by email which is confirmed by fee payment.

Winter in the Mountains (WIM)

 

Winter in the Mountains is an introductory course put on by members for the Edmonton Section of the Alpine Club. This course is designed to introduce people to the skills they will require for traveling in the mountains on skis. There will be 4 classroom sessions and 2 skills weekend that cover hypothermia, clothing, gear, shelter, and avalanche assessment.  This year an extra skills weekend will be available so students can experience both a hut and winter camping for a total of three skills weekends if desired.

Winter on Ice (WOI)

 

Winter on Ice is an introductory course put on by members for the Edmonton Section of the Alpine Club. This course is designed to introduce people to the skills they will require for introductory level ice-climbing. There will be 2 classroom sessions and 1 skills weekend that covers walking with crampons, ice climbing technique and gear.

Crevasse Rescue and Luau Weekend

 

An opportunity to spend a weekend in the mountains learning and practicing your crevasse-rescue skills during the day, then enjoy a Luau party at night.  Prizes awarded for best ladies' and men's costumes on Saturday night!
